STS, ATS, and EMS in Energy Storage Systems
2026-04-28
With the widespread application of solar energy storage systems (ESS) in both commercial and residential scenarios, power switching and energy management have become key parts of system architecture. STS (Static Transfer Switch), ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch), and EMS (Energy Management System) play important roles in energy storage system configuration.

STS (Static Transfer Switch)
STS (Static Transfer Switch) is used for fast switching between grid power and energy storage power, enabling millisecond-level transfer to maintain continuous power supply for critical loads.

ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch)
ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) is used to automatically switch to a backup power source (energy storage system or generator) when the main power supply is abnormal or interrupted, ensuring basic power continuity.

EMS (Energy Management System)
EMS (Energy Management System) is used for monitoring and energy dispatch control of the energy storage system, including PV generation management, battery charging and discharging control, and multi-energy coordination strategies.
In an energy storage system, STS and ATS are responsible for power switching logic, while EMS manages overall energy scheduling and operating strategies, together forming the basic control architecture of the system.
